Cross-Curricular Programme

The Cross-Curricular Programme has been developed to provide QMC Junior School students with the opportunity to pursue their personal interests while reinforcing the attributes of the IB Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning – research skills, social skills, thinking skills, communication skills and self-management skills.

The programme’s offering is broad and allows students of all ages to extend their potential beyond the classroom.

Places are limited and are issued on a first-come basis

Chess Club (Years 4-6)

Students of all levels are welcome to have fun, learn, and master this wonderful game

The Chess Club sessions are a mix of interactive learning and game-play, following the official FIDE Educational Chess guidelines. The coach is a Certified FIDE Chess Instructor, and each session is designed to be engaging for all students, regardless of their level.

Every student receives a ChessKid online account where they can continue to play with their club mates, or they can choose to engage in a variety of challenges. Students are encouraged to bring an A5 notebook to class to keep track of their games and replay them at home if they wish.

Caitlin is a professional dancer and dance teacher ready to help you on your dance journey. Whether you’ve never done hip hop or if you’re a pro, there will be something for everyone.

In our sessions you will learn a range of exciting hip hop routines using the latest choreography and music. By the end of the term, you'll be part of a fantastic mini-performance, showcasing your dance skills to the world!

Every week, Joanne presents a new story in an energetic, interactive programme.

Joanne uses a range of drama and performance skills, movement and dance, kids' yoga, songs, music, props and reflection time, to build on children’s concentration, confidence and collaboration skills.

Drama and Music Senior (Years 5-6)

Early introduction to Drama and Music

This class aims to bring a sense of playing to singing and performance. The children will learn skills in voice and drama through singing in a playful and safe environment. The classes will involve warm-ups for the voice and theatre games that encourage students to express themselves.
The main goals for this course are:
Learning techniques for singing, mental and physical awareness . Strong listening to yourself, musicianship and musicality, and most importantly to have fun!

Service and Leadership Club

Service & Leadership Club (Years 5-6)

Service and Leadership Club

This term, we'll be introducing students to what service and leadership within QMC, and the wider community can look like and mean to different people. We will also learn more about our partner charity for term 1, the kind of work they do and brainstorm how we can support them best. We will then work together to organise school wide fundraiser where students will learn more about the process of bringing their ideas into life. In week 8, with the support of the senior school, students will get the opportunity to lead this event.

All Cross-Curricular Activities are charged per term to your QMC Account. The Trybooking system will list the event as ‘free’, this is because the fee will not be taken by the booking system, rather charged to your QMC account.

In order to cover the upfront costs associated with conducting the Cross-Curricular activities, refunds are not available if your child is not able to attend any of the days.

If you would like your child to attend After School Care following the completion of their club from 4:30pm - 5:30pm please book this via afterschoolcare@qmc.school.nz. This will an additional $13 per day.
