Cross-Curricular Programme
The Cross-Curricular Programme has been developed to provide QMC Junior School students with the opportunity to pursue their personal interests while reinforcing the attributes of the IB Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning – research skills, social skills, thinking skills, communication skills and self-management skills.
The programme’s offering is broad and allows students of all ages to extend their potential beyond the classroom.
Places are limited and are issued on a first-come basis. Please note that once booked, refunds are not available for any Cross-Curricular Activity. We encourage you to book cautiously.

Chess Wizards (Years 3-6)
Master the game of chess with fun, interactive sessions for all skill levels!
Students of all levels are welcome to learn and master chess. Sessions mix interactive learning and gameplay, following FIDE guidelines. The coach, a Certified FIDE Chess Instructor, ensures engaging sessions for everyone. Each student gets a ChessKid account to play with club mates or take on challenges. Students are encouraged to bring an A5 notebook to track and replay games at home, enhancing their skills further. Join to become a chess champion!

Hip Hop Queens (Years 5-6)
Boogie and groove to high-energy hip hop beats!
If you’ve got energy to burn and love to move, you’re in the right place! Hip Hop combines fitness and fun in aerobic dance routines. Join an exciting series that blends rhythm, energy, and movement. This class challenges your coordination, boosts fitness, and keeps you engaged with high-energy choreography. Whether you're a beginner or experienced, get ready to move, and groove to the music with enthusiasm, joy, and a smile on your face throughout the entire class!

Karate Warriors (Years 1-6)
Boost fitness and confidence in a safe, inclusive martial arts environment!
Join the exciting Karate Warriors Club, run by Marudao Karate! Our non-profit offers a safe, inclusive environment for students in Years 1-6 to boost physical fitness and mental wellness through martial arts. Led by experienced black belts, our program welcomes all ages, genders, and cultures. Students will enjoy learning karate techniques, building confidence, and participating in engaging activities. Cheer Champs (Years 3-4)
Cheer, dance, and sparkle with exciting routines and team tricks!
Get ready to cheer and sparkle with Cheer Champs Club! Our cheerleaders will master exciting routines, fundamental dance skills, and awesome team tricks. Grab your pompoms, bring your energy, and let’s cheer like never before! This activity challenges movement skills, increases fitness, and is loads of fun. Improve your coordination, build confidence, and make new friends in a supportive environment. Creative Kids (Years 1-2)
Unleash creativity and build essential art skills in a fun, supportive environment!
Our club focuses on creating beautiful and fun crafts, while building essential skills and art abilities in a safe, engaging, and supportive environment. We encourage growth and creativity, helping young artists take their crafts to the next level. Through various projects and activities, students will explore their artistic potential, develop a love for crafting, and enjoy every moment of their creative journey, making new friends and creating wonderful, lasting memories along the way!

Rhythm and Smooth (Years 2-6)
Learn Ballroom and Latin Dance solo or in teams with Rhythm and Smooth.
Rhythm and Smooth is a cool new way to learn Ballroom and Latin American Dance using a Solo Platform and Team Platform to learn the Basic fundamentals without the need for a partner. We welcome the student’s participation as to music tracks and endeavour to incorporate the students’ creative ideas in the dance routines. The styles we cover are Salsa, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba, Samba, LaRock (French RnR), Waltz, Tango, and Foxtrot.

Service Squad (Years 5-6)
Use creativity and teamwork to give back to the community!
The Service Stars Club is back, using creativity and teamwork to give back to the community! Over seven weeks, students will design and make school-coloured scrunchies and hair clips to sell, raising funds for Wellington Free Ambulance. Each session will focus on different stages of crafting, from pinning and suturing fabric to assembling stylish hair accessories. Students will also plan promotional posters, set pricing, and organize a school-wide sale. Join us for fun, friendship, and service!

Kapa Haka (Years 1-5)
Celebrate Māori culture with our Kapa Haka group. Join us for dance, song, and tradition!
Dive into the vibrant world of Māori performing arts with our Kapa Haka group. Here, you'll learn traditional dances, sing beautiful waiata (songs), and embrace tikanga (cultural practices). It's the perfect way to express yourself through dance, celebrate Māori heritage, and immerse yourself in the rich Māori culture. Mini Mindfulness (Years 3-6)
Relax, focus, and find calm through yoga and mindfulness practices!
Mini Mindfulness aims to nurture a peaceful mind, healthy body, and creative spirit in primary school children. We start with sharing circles for self-expression and discussing feelings. Children learn breathing techniques for self-regulation and emotional intelligence. Through mindful activities, they develop cooperation, connection, patience, and compassion. We teach age-appropriate yoga poses in a safe, inclusive environment, ending with rest and relaxation to help their body and brain slow down, unwind, and rejuvenate fully and completely.

Passport to the World (Years 4-6)
Have your boarding passes ready and prepare to open your Passport to the World.
Embark on an exciting virtual journey with us as we explore the rich tapestry of cultures, customs, languages, and cuisines from around the globe. Each week, we'll "travel" to a new destination, discovering fascinating places and amazing things that make each part of the world unique. Whether you're a budding globetrotter or just curious about the world, this club is your ticket to adventure, discovery, and making new friends along the way.

All Cross-Curricular Activities are charged per term to your QMC Account. The Trybooking system will list the event as ‘free’, this is because the fee will not be taken by the booking system, rather charged to your QMC account.
In order to cover the upfront costs associated with conducting the Cross-Curricular activities, refunds are not available if your child is not able to attend any of the days.
If you would like your child to attend After School Care following the completion of their club from 4:30pm - 5:30pm please book this via afterschoolcare@qmc.school.nz. This will an additional $13 per day.
