Cross-Curricular Programme
The Cross-Curricular Programme has been developed to provide QMC Junior School students with the opportunity to pursue their personal interests while reinforcing the attributes of the IB Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning – research skills, social skills, thinking skills, communication skills and self-management skills.
The programme’s offering is broad and allows students of all ages to extend their potential beyond the classroom.
Places are limited and are issued on a first-come basis
Chess Club (Years 4-6)
Students of all levels are welcome to have fun, learn, and master this wonderful game
The Chess Club sessions are a mix of interactive learning and game-play, following the official FIDE Educational Chess guidelines. The coach is a Certified FIDE Chess Instructor, and each session is designed to be engaging for all students, regardless of their level.
Every student receives a ChessKid online account where they can continue to play with their club mates, or they can choose to engage in a variety of challenges. Students are encouraged to bring an A5 notebook to class to keep track of their games and replay them at home if they wish.

Hip Hop (Years 1-6)
Get ready to boogie with Caitlin! If you’ve got energy to burn and love to move, you’re in the right place!
Hip Hop brings together fitness and fun in a series of aerobic dance routines.
Enjoy a fusion of dance and aerobics as we explore the Hip Hop with Caitlin. This activity is designed to challenge movement skills, increase fitness and have fun!

Cultural Craft (Years 4-6)
It's time to get creative with craft!
Students in Years 4 to 6 will step into the world of creativity with Cultural Craft. Immersing themselves in the artistry of Chinese-themed crafts, this hands-on experience is a delightful dive into tradition and imagination, perfect for our young artisans in the making.

Physical Stories (Years 1-3)
Every week, Joanne presents a new story that kids love in an energetic, interactive programme.
Stories are one of the best ways of teaching and conveying positive messages for tamariki. Joanne uses a range of drama and performance skills, movement and dance, kids' yoga, songs, music, props and reflection time, to build on children’s concentration, confidence and collaboration skills.
Physical Story sessions are designed to be great fun and purposeful. Through stories and movement, we work on themes such as being kind, discovering what makes you special, understanding that your actions affect others, managing fear and being brave, being able to stay calm and using deep breathing to think clearly. Getting kids thinking and physically moving their bodies simultaneously is so beneficial!

It's time to get creative with craft!
Our youngest creative and crafty students will embark on a delightful journey into the artistry of Chinese-themed crafts. This hands -on experience is a perfect introduction to tradition and imagination for our budding artisans.

Drama and Music (Years 5-6)
Join Mr Raphael for an hour of drama and music.
The children will learn skills in voice and drama through singing in a playful environment. The classes will involve warm ups for the voice and theatre games that get them to express themselves.
Silly songs and tongue twisters that will aid diction and confidence in speaking and singing.

Leadership and Cultural Diversity Club (Years 5-6)
Leadership and Culture Diversity Club
Students in Years 5 and 6 will discover the power of voice and vision and shape the Late Moon Festival event. This club is the heart of our student-driver approach to the Chinese Moon Festival event, where our older students don't just participate - they lead.

Mini Mindfulness (Years 3-6)

All Cross-Curricular Activities are charged per term to your QMC Account. The Trybooking system will list the event as ‘free’, this is because the fee will not be taken by the booking system, rather charged to your QMC account.
In order to cover the upfront costs associated with conducting the Cross-Curricular activities, refunds are not available if your child is not able to attend any of the days.
If you would like your child to attend After School Care following the completion of their club from 4:30pm - 5:30pm please book this via afterschoolcare@qmc.school.nz. This will an additional $13 per day.
