Subject Expo Stands at Open Day

At Open Day our dedicated staff host a Subject Expo stand for their department, showcasing the diverse array of learning opportunities available to our students. Each subject station offers an in-depth look into a specific area. Our passionate educators are on hand to chat with you to provide insights and answer any questions you may have.

Technology

At our booth you will see a huge range of student work from all levels. This will include textiles outcomes ranging from soft toys, bags, clothing, to stunning WOW creations, and materials technology and product design work including jewellery, 3D printed and lasercut products. All of the work on display will have been created in response to a real-life problem or situation identified by our students.

Languages

Religious Education

Our Reverend Deborah Wilson is the head of Religious Education at Queen Margaret College. Our school was founded on the values of Presbyterianism in 1919. Today we welcome students from all religions and backgrounds. With over 50 nationalities represented at QMC, we thrive knowing that diversity enriches us all. Middle Years Programme (MYP)

The Middle Years Programme encourages independence in learning, asking girls to participate actively and responsibly in a changing world. Using dynamic cycles of inquiry, action and reflection, students apply what they learn in the classroom to the outside world.

Junior School (Primary Years Programme PYP)

Our Head of Junior School Jan Treeby says 'children are naturally curious, and we support this through guided inquiry learning, based on the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, embracing imagination and developing critical collaborative skills from an early age'. Te Reo Māori

Kiriwera Su'a leads our Te reo Māori department and our Tikanga Māori across the kura, along with supporting teachers with mātauranga Māori in their curriculum resourcing.

IBDP and NCEA

Duke of Edinburgh (DOE)

The Duke of Edinburgh's Hillary Award equips rangatahi for promising futures by challenging young people to develop skills and tools to improve themselves, and their communities. At QMC students are given the opportunity to take part in challenges that meet their interests, their ambitions, and work towards four Award sections; Voluntary Service, Physical Recreation, Skills and Adventurous Journey.

Boarding House

Our boarding facility, Queen Margaret House, caters for domestic and international students. The 43 room house is the only all-girls accommodation of its kind in Wellington, situated in the heart of the city. Available to students in Years 7-13, Queen Margaret House offers our students a well-supported learning environment, and the opportunity to establish life-long friendships.

The Arts

Music, dance and drama are incorporated into work throughout the year. In Years 1-6 all students have the opportunity to participate in a musical or drama production, helping to build confidence, relationships and collaborative skills. QMC also offers students music lessons and the opportunity to be part of a successful choir or orchestra.

Wellbeing

Our Wellbeing programmes help students form positive relationships and cultivate healthy mindsets. Wellbeing encompasses a student’s emotional, mental, physical, social and spiritual development. Deputy Principal Wellbeing Fiona Crawford will be available to chat with you about the wrap around support offered to students at QMC.
