Success continues on the hockey field

One of our most recent Old Girls has continued her success on the hockey field after a huge 2017.

Estelle Macadré has made the 2018 Under 21 New Zealand Hockey squad.

Last year she was a member of the Under 19 Junior Black Sticks squad and made the National Hockey League squad.

This is the first time she has been able to qualify for the Under 21s and says she was surprised but thrilled to make the cut.

“It was honestly such an amazing feeling,” Estelle says.

“It’s my first year in this age group so I am one of the youngest squad members. Making this squad was a big goal for me in 2019, I feel really privileged to be given this opportunity a year earlier.”

Estelle qualified for the Under 21 squad through her performance at a National tournament in April. In July she had her first camp with the squad in the Hawke’s Bay.

“We trained as a squad and played inter-squad matches,” Estelle explains.

“This was an amazing experience and I learnt a lot about what it means to be a world class athlete and the requirements I need to meet if I want to go further with my hockey.

Estelle is sponsored by Jamie Dwyer Hockey and says she “really appreciates” their support throughout the season.

“My next goal is to be selected from the Under 21 squad into the team that will play a test series against Australia at the end of the year,” Estelle says.

“If I don’t make that selection, I will continue to train and get ready for the 2019 re-selections.”

Estelle is also at Victoria University of Wellington studying a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies and Education.
