Making Netball History

Grace McLean, Queen Margaret College netballQueen Margaret College made the Netball Nationals for the first time in Term 3.

Following success at the Lower North Island Senior School Netball Championships the QMC Senior A Netball team qualified for the New Zealand Secondary Schools Netball Championships for the first time ever this year.

QMC came 4th in the Lower North Island Champs which took place during Winter Sports Tournament Week.

Nationals took place in Rotorua during the Term 3 School Holidays.

QMC played against St Hilda’s Collegiate School, Ashburton College and Mount Albert Grammar in the pool rounds then moved to take on St Paul’s Collegiate in the second.

They had an incredible win against Christchurch Girl’s High School on Thursday with a score of 40 – 28.

QMC came 14th out of 16 in the tournament which was an excellent result for a first attempt.

Co-captain Grace McLean, who was selected for the national tournament team, says Nationals were the “final celebration” of years of development for the Senior A team.

“The experience was terrific for our team and was a great end to mine and Georgia Taylor’s (co-captain) final year. The competition was tough, however as it was our first time at the tournament, it was good to see how high the level of netball was. The character of the QMC team was outstanding. We could not have been prouder to captain such a committed and resilient side.”
