The College is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School authorised to teach the IB Diploma and the Primary Years Programme (PYP). We are implementing the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), the philosophy of which fits perfectly with our beliefs about Middle School students and our existing holistic approach to education. In the Middle School we aim to ease the transition of our students from a primary school environment to that of a secondary school by ensuring the development of confidence, high self-esteem and sound work habits. The MYP provides a framework for this to develop.
MYP helps students develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to participate responsibly in a changing and increasingly inter-related world. This means teaching them to become independent learners who can recognise relationships between school subjects and the world outside, and learn to combine relevant knowledge, experience and critical thinking to solve complex problems.
As illustrated in the MYP Curriculum diagram, the Learner Profile puts students at the heart of the programme. The Queen Margaret College Learner Profile outlined below underpins all three IB programmes (PYP, MYP and IB Diploma) and is applicable to learning at all levels of the College.
Students strive to be:
MYP is Guided By Three Fundamental Concepts:
- Holistic learning
- Intercultural awareness
These three fundamental concepts are promoted and fostered through curriculum planning and delivery, extracurricular activities, House competitions, Community Service, exchanges, and leadership.
The curriculum contains eight subject groups:
- Language and Literature (Language A)
- Language Acquisition (Language B)
- Individuals and Societies (Humanities)
- Design (Technology)
- Physical & Health Education
