Our Values

The Queen Margaret College motto is

Luce Veritatis
By the light of truth

As a Presbyterian girls' school, our special character is nurtured by a religious education programme, assemblies and services where respect for spirituality and different beliefs is encouraged.

Our girls become
principled women
who make a difference
in the modern world.

Emphasis is placed on participation in community service in order to raise the girls' awareness of the needs of others. From the outset, Queen Margaret girls have taken part in community service both locally and internationally. Contributing to charity takes many different forms, from participating in street collections to organising and running community fairs where money is raised for individual charities.

Traditional values are further enhanced by our House system which fosters involvement and encourages older girls to take responsibility for younger pupils.

"I am convinced that we owe to the Houses two of the school's best attributes - its spirit of keenness and the happy relationship between older and younger girls".
Irene Wilson Principal from 1924-1926
MG 3154

The House system at Queen Margaret College goes back to 1927 when the Principal, Irene Wilson, introduced it to foster friendship and understanding throughout the College. Each of our five Houses are adapted from Scottish Castles, which represent our Presbyterian heritage and Scottish background.

Dare to be wise

Honour before honours

The overall framework for governance and management is suitably student centred and designed to promote a value system of nurturing and respect.
