It is my pleasure to welcome you to Queen Margaret College, the largest private girls' school in Wellington and one of New Zealand’s most successful and innovative schools. The College provides education from Pre-School to Year 13. We are an IB World School and the only girls’ school in the lower North Island offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma.
Established in 1919 as a Presbyterian girls' school, our location in leafy inner-city Thorndon is ideal in providing ready access to all that a cosmopolitan capital city offers. We celebrate the cultural diversity of our students, a feature of the school from early in its history, located as we are close to embassies, high commissions and parliament. The perspective gained here is culturally rich and necessarily global.
Right from the start, Queen Margaret College has been a leader in girls’ education. The fine tradition of Presbyterian education with its strong academic emphasis is still the foundation of the College. And yet the College today is also future focused, responding to the needs of girls growing up in the world of the 21st century.
Queen Margaret College is a unique and vibrant community where learning and relationships are at the centre of school life. We provide rigorous and engaging academic and extra-curricular programmes to meet the needs of girls at each stage of their educational journey. Technology is integrated across the curriculum ensuring that students are equipped for today’s digital world.
Our broad and rigorous education seeks to instil in our girls an enthusiasm and curiosity for learning, whilst building and developing their confidence and self-esteem. Within this dynamic learning environment, girls are encouraged to develop their skills and talents across all areas and challenged to pursue excellence and achieve their personal best.
We enjoy a reputation for excellent academic results, a supportive community, an outstanding extra-curricular programme including a comprehensive international exchange programme, committed teachers, fine facilities and a supportive Old Girl network.
A QMC education aims to produce articulate, competent and compassionate young women with a desire to use their education and talents to make a significant contribution to society. They will be the leaders of tomorrow.
Please take the time to browse our extensive website and then I encourage you and your daughter to visit the College.
